The Chinese Silver Panda coin is a product of the Chinese Mint and was first minted in 1983. With a face value of 10 Yuan, the Chinese Silver Panda coin is legal tender in China and is fully backed by the country.


The obverse of the coin features the Temple of Heaven, while the reverse showcases a panda design that changes yearly. 


The Temple of Heaven, located in Beijing, China, is a complex of religious buildings used for ceremonies by the Emperors of the Ming and Qing Dynasties. The most notable structure within the temple complex is the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests, a beautifully intricate wooden building that was built without the use of nails. This hall was used for imperial sacrifices to Heaven, and it played an important role in maintaining the emperor’s mandate to rule. 


The giant panda is one of China’s national symbols. These endangered animals are revered by the Chinese people and they are often seen as a symbol of good luck. 


The Chinese Silver Panda coin was first issued as proof quality in 1983. From 1983 to 1985, the Chinese Silver Panda coins had a purity level of .900. 


In 1987, the Chinese Mint changed the content of the coin to 1 Troy oz containing .999 pure silver. The Chinese Mint also changed the size and weight of the Chinese Silver Panda coin in 1987—increasing the size of the coin from 38.6 mm to 40 mm and changing the purity from .900 fine silver to .999 fine silver. 


The Chinese Silver Panda coin is minted in various weights, including 1 oz, 2 oz, 5 oz, 10 oz, and 1 kilogram.


The Chinese Mint has released a new design for the Chinese Silver Panda coin each year since its inception, except for 1986 and 1988 when production was temporarily halted. 


The Chinese Mint also releases a Chinese Gold Panda coin every year.
