The One-Ounce American Gold Eagle Proof Coin is a special edition of the American Gold Eagle, regarded worldwide as one of the most beautiful gold coins ever in regular mintage.

The stunning design of the Gold Eagle features a rendering of Augustus Saint-Gauden’s masterful portrayal of a proud and confident Liberty on the obverse. Sculptor Miley Busiek’s classic “Family of Eagles” graces the reverse, replacing the symbolism of might portrayed by the traditional heraldic eagle with that of peace and family.

In the proof edition, the beauty of the Gold Eagle is taken to the heights of the artist’s imagination through a painstaking mintage process that begins with the most lustrous gold blanks. The blanks are fed by hand into the presses to prevent the slightest blemish being caused by handling machinery. The coins are pressed using special dies designated solely for the production of Gold Eagle Proofs. Multiple strikes ensure the finest details of the images are reproduced in a slightly frosted finish, while the background retains a blemish-free, mirrored surface.

The Gold Eagle Proof is presented in an elegant dark blue velvet case along with an official U.S. Mint Certificate of Authenticity, attesting to the weight and purity of its gold content.

Only pure gold mined in the United States, alloyed with 3% American silver and 5.33% copper for durability, is used to produce the 22-karat Gold Eagle Proof Coins.

In addition to the 1-ounce coin, Gold Eagle Proofs are minted in 1/2-ounce, 1/4-ounce and 1/10-ounce sizes, and all four can be purchased as a set in a special presentation case.

David said that the Post Office requires a registered box to be sealed with brown paper tape to prevent tampering. David emailed me links to sites that showed the right tape to use and how to seal the box. He called several UPS stores in my neighborhood to try to find the tape for me. In the end, I bought the tape from the Post Office. David explained that while Fedex and UPS would ship the coins, since they are not allowed to ship gold or silver, I would have no recourse if my coins were lost. David even gave me his home number so I could reach him after hours if necessary.My experience with Certified Gold Exchange, Inc. stands in stark contrast with how two other coin brokers responded. The firm from which I had bought most of my silver coins never called me back. On November 13 when I called the broker from whom I had bought most of my gold coins, I couldn't get through on the phone. So, I emailed them and it took 5 days for them to respond! The broker didn't give me a quote until December 2 -- and then only for some of the coins! He said he would tell me what they would pay for the other coins after I shipped them!In addition, that broker explained that one of their customers had lost all their coins valued at $22,000 because the box was tampered with and they had failed to insure them for the full amount.
