A recent investigation into how taxpayer funds are used found that officials at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services have been jet-setting first-class around the world.
One first-class HHS flight from Los Angeles to Sydney cost $14,201, more than 400% more than the coach price of $2,763.
All told, HHS spent $31 million on 7,000 first and business-class flights from 2009 to 2013.
More than 5,000 of these flights qualified for coach seating, and among the offenders was former Health Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, who used $56,000 in taxpayer money on 14 first and business-class flights.
