At least three professional grading experts independently assess each coin and all must agree before a grade is assigned. All of NGC’s graders have commercial experience, but once hired full time they are prohibited from engaging in the exchange of rare coins to eliminate any possibility of conflict of interest.

Once a coin is authenticated and receives its grade it is then sonically sealed in NGC’s industry leading packaging. NGC introduced the security hologram and use of inert plastics and sulfur-free paper to protect coins from the corrosive air born gases and moisture inherent in the aging process of other materials as well as to deter counterfeiting.
