Director of the U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM), Katherine Archuleta, recently announced that, during the fiscal years of 2011 through to 2013, $3.1 billion was spent paying federal employees to be on administrative leave whilst waiting on their respective disciplinary hearings. As a result, the OPM would look to finally implement the Government Accountability Office’s (GAO) recommendations that had previously highlighted the problem.
During this period, literally hundreds of federal employees were required to remain away from their workplace for as long as 3 years, as they waited on the date of the hearing for their alleged workplace malpractice, according to the GAO.
